NTG Backlog Catch-Up #3! - New Snaps 10.10.05

Wow, it's been nigh on two months since I dished out an official New Snaps post.

But take heart! Just because I haven't been readily posting them doesn't mean the snaps haven't been... um... snapped. Wow, that's terrible. I should go back and erase that, but I'm not one to ignore my mistakes. Embrace them and move on, I say!

And in the spirit of moving on, here's a batch of snaps that date back as far as August. Like I said, I was meaning to get them up sooner but I've just been busy. You said your girlfriend's pregnant now, how far along is she?

***************

Fu Manchu Cover?

On the busride back from my trip to LBI in August, we passed this burning van. It marks the second time in recent years I've passed burning vans on the side of highways (the first being a late night drive back from an ex-girlfriend's place in Jersey when I lived in PA). The first one was pre-Pentax, so no snap except the one in my mind. I'll be able to see it when I reach Heaven and all the pictures I've taken in my mind over my lifetime will be splayed out in front of me.

***************

Ben & Aimee's Demon Army Of The Night

Of course they're not really evil demon cats, but this picture makes it look like it.

***************

Schnauzer

I couldn't help but wonder what this dog was thinking, staring out the window at someone taking his picture.

***************

My Shoe?

This was coming off an escalator at Grand Central. Those escalators can be brutal, obviously capable of tearing the shoes off women's feet. A companion picture I wish I had was the woman who lost it, walking through Grand Central with one bare foot. Sadly, I only saw the aftermath, not the... um... math. Who came up with that word anyway? Was it Dr. Dre?

***************

What's The Deal With This Guy?

It's been awhile since I've been out to a "nice" dinner, but at what point did they start serving rice in little dishes atopped with little statues? Has my recent diet of pasta and Crown Fried Chicken left me so out of touch?

***************

My Feelings On Fashion In General

This is a snap I've been meaning to get for years. Thanks to my guest photographer!

***************

Cait's Dawkins Impression

I actually missed the snap the first time she did this, and I had to bargain with her to get her to do it again. Best $4,500 I've ever spent!

***************

More Godspeed Covers?

Maybe it's just me being delusional, but both of these look like ideal Godspeed album covers. Coupled with the one I posted last week under the same classification, I guess it's an indicator of how my mind's been working lately.

Colin's First Birthday

These are some of my favorite snaps from Colin's first birthday party...

It has obviously become a rite of passage to systematically smash your first piece of birthday cake, but Colin didn't get to it right away. He sort of stared at it for a little while, like he didn't believe it was actually his to devour/destroy.

I love this one... It's bound for the 2005 Favorites list. From L-R: Ryan, Colin, CJ, Eric.

After Colin started eating, a nuclear reactor went off next door. He was momentarily amazed, and then kept eating.

When he was finished, he sort of sat there for awhile, thinking "okay, how long am I going to have this blue stuff all over me?"

My Photographic Inspiration

Wonder where I get my insatiable need to snap everything I see? I get it from my Mom. Someday I'm planning on doing a New Snaps with her as my special guest. She, herself, rocks a Pentax 35mm with a 300mm zoom capable of catching low-orbit satellites.

Double TT

Walking distance from my family home in Blue Bell, there stands the illustrious Double TT diner, the site of many a conversation hypothesizing what ethereal happenings occur during the mysterious 25th hour! No, it has nothing to do with the 2002 Spike Lee film. We (and when I say "we" I'm giving a shout to Dacky, TOKA, Surly, Bostwyck, Detective, and the Archduchess) actually had it figured out once... Due to the time shifts that occur during daylight savings time, the Sunday morning in April when clocks nationwide are set back an hour is actually 25 hours long. This means, mathematically, that the 25th hour in the eastern time zone of the United States could very well be that same day, from 11pm to midnight. We have yet to put this theory into practice and find out if unicorns spring from the wallpaper or anything like that, but since it happens once a year, we've got the rest of our lives...

Stony Creek

On our last visit to PA, Cait and I stopped by my old elementary school playground. Good old Stony Creek Elementary. So many memories...

Alright, you've had enough! As is typical, I've gotta end with something I turned up in the various internet wanderings I did in preparation of this edition of New Snaps. So, here's the creepiest-of-the-creepy, Joe Rogan, during the 2004 Fear Factor Playmate Edition Special. Apparently the water in which Angel Boris (Miss July, 1996, for those wondering) is about to plunge is a tad chilly. Rogan, you diabolical mastermind, you!

There's something you might not know about me, Joe Rogan...

I should like to venture a guess as to the "What is it?" riddle. I believe that is a close-up of your arm hair and all its grandeur. I only know that because that's what my arms look like.

I smoke rocks.

Your blog is great. How'd you like a free color inkjet printer?

Ant: apologies, but your guess is incorrect (however close to the truth...). BUT, we have yet to receive a correct answer, so there's still time! There is no limit to the number of guesses. You're so close! Don't give up now!

nvsurly: yeah, my fondest memory from the principal's office was when I had to sit and listen to his lecture on why revenge was wrong. That was after my epic second-grade fight with Justin Beale in defense of Evan Hohlfeld, which precipitated the collection of acorns for several days with the intended purpose of triangulating Beale in a hail of crossfire. I specifically remember collecting them and hiding them behind a tree, and I had at least 2 other people signed on, but someone sold me out and I had to listen to that lecture. Never did find out who the rat was... It's hard to believe we were actually that conniving as 8-year-olds, to hatch a plan to trap and pelt a fellow student with acorns. And I remember the tires very well, sadly they are no more. Also gone is The Log. Remember The Log? We used to all balance on it, and Shal would run down the length of it with his arm outstretched, yelling "cutter cutter cutter..." and trying to knock us off. Ahhh memories. And now we're grown, and though sometimes we know too much, we are only sure of how little... we know...
