Goodbye, My Friend...

...you won't be anymore with us.

Sadly, a good friend and fellow blogger of NTG is hanging up the ol' blogging shoes, at least for now.

Greased Poker Chips, a singularly unique baseball blog, is going on an open-ended hiatus due to the end of baseball in New York until next April, among other circumstantial reasons. Throughout the 2005 season, GPC meticulously tracked the exploits of baseball's two oldest players, Julio and John Franco; the daily battles of the wily journeyman reliever, Al Leiter; and the back pages of New York City's premier tabloid sports papers, The New York Post and The Daily News. Every post showcased an arresting witticism and encyclopedic passion for the sport, on the part of GPC's founder and webmaster, Ben Hill.

GPC served as an inspiration for myself, and for NTG. It saddens all of us here to look toward the unforseeable future without the promise of GPC's accompaniment, but we understand that such is the nature of life. Following the benevolent teaching of Ben, we shan't focus on the future, but on the eternal now.

If you've never visited Greased Poker Chips, I strongly advise you to CHECK IT OUT. The entire catalog of writings is archived, and well worth reading, so be sure to pay your final respects.

And take heart... GPC might prove the Phoenix, and rise from its ashes...

We'll be watching.
