Movie Review: El Vacilon: The Movie

Wow. If ever there was a film that shares dual citizenship in the lands of Awesome and Terrible, this is it.

Spanish-language shock-jocks Luis Jimenez and Moonshadow (hosts of Mega 97.9's "El Vacilon de la Manana") bring their on-air zaniness to the screen, and they truly, TRULY, don't give a fuck.

Which rules.

Some evidence of their non-fuck-giving, you say? Okay, here you go... this film contains scenes of the following:

- Moonshadow fellating a banana while dressed in drag at a beachfront banana-fellating competition
- A DVD supervillain with a filthy, dripping asshole for a mouth (and an ass for a face, but I figured you would have gathered that)
- Luis getting vomited on while his hand is caught in a piss-filled toilet
- COUNTLESS instances of genital trauma
- An extended strip club scene, complete with a lapdance from a 50DD woman
- Horse masturbation

...among others that I'll refrain from mentioning, since they basically all fall under the same category.

Some of the highlights (other than an ending that, once it happens, leaves you no choice to but to think "of COURSE they ended it that way, how else could they end a movie like this?") include Luis' use of a toy Batmobile to hit on a woman at a bar, and the "in-studio" radio show scenes. For someone like me, who speaks veritably no Spanish and yet is a marginal fan of the show, I loved seeing them at work with the luxury of subtitles. I'd love to see a short documentary specifically on that!

Ben and I were obligated to see this movie, due to our fascination with the inimitable duo (here's the BACKSTORY for you NTG novices). While it was by no means one of my favorite films of the year, just the experience of seeing it (and thus the reality of its existence) was top notch. Luis and Moon essentially have created a film about themselves creating a movie, but the movie that they create IS the film itself, and they never really "make" a movie in the timeline of the film itself. It's all some faux-po-mo "fuck you" that can be boiled down to: they wanted to make a movie, they made a movie, the movie exists for the sake of being the movie that they created, which was about them creating a movie. It's an excuse for them to be themselves and not give a fuck what anyone thinks. Genius or waste of time? It's both. And neither.

See it! Or don't! Luis and Moon don't give a fuck!

Okay, at least WATCH THE TRAILER...
