The NTG Christmas Hiatus!

Ahhhh, it feels good to be posting again!

With that, I'm here to announce our official hiatus!

Yes, it's true, things have been batshit around here, and I haven't been able to post with nearly the regularity that I like to. I am still collecting new snaps and observing the world around me and doing all the other things that informed my posts here on NTG, but I just haven't had the time or focus to direct it all into written form. And just like I knew that old-ass dude at the very end of Aeon Flux would say (by the way, I saw Aeon Flux this weekend and found it unsurprisingly predictable):

"I'm tired."

So I'm rounding out this week by taking it easy (work should be cake, and with the transit strike I doubt I'll be getting around town much) and then leaving on Friday for the greener pastures of Blue Bell. Christmas at my house should be very chill, and that's exactly what I want. The past few times I've made it out of New York, I haven't felt too able to relax, so weekends intended to be therapeutic respites from the city's crushing schizophrenia didn't exactly pan out that way. I'm planning on changing all that with this trip.

This will likely be the final post until 2006 (and while I mean no offense to those readers who don't celebrate, or simply don't like, Christmas, I'm still calling it a Christmas Hiatus... my blog, my holiday!), but I'm hoping to start the year off with a bang. I'll DEFINITELY be coming back with snaps, and I'm also in the process of compiling the Grandiose Favorites of 2005, a snap-rospective of the year that will soon depart. Plus, I'm always willing to hear some ideas for new features (with only two games left on the Eagles schedule, the Eagles Pic Of The Week will be sailing off into the sunset until October or so), so please feel free to hit me up on the comment board or via email at NTG_MAIL@yahoo.com with any and all suggestions.

We here at Nothing Terribly Grandiose would like to wish you all a safe, happy, healthy holiday season. 2005 was a great year. 2006 will be even better.

Stay Inspired,

JMP

Eagles Pic Of The Week So Ben Will Shut Up!

YES!

The Eagles have finally won a game to come to a record of 6-8! Now, all we need is to win the remaining two games and pray that both Dallas and Washington LOSE their two remaining games, and we'll end up with a breaking-even record and be on the same page as two of our division rivals!

Hey, it can happen...

Truthfully, I didn't watch the game Sunday. New York markets weren't carrying it, and with my compy dead I couldn't even follow it online. I had considered going to a bar to watch, but Town Tavern seemed so far away, plus given the fact that I came close to bludgeoning another human being (albeit, a Seattle fan) the last time I was there, I figured it was best to steer clear. But don't for a second think that my support of the team in midnight green has waned... This has been a tough year, obviously, but given the barrage of shit we've had to deal with since early February, I think we're still coming out of it able to hold our heads up. Not high, but up.

This week's pic is the inimitable Brian Dawkins, intercepting a pass intended for the Rams' Brandon Manumaleuna. Heh... more like Brandon Manumaleu-NOT-catching-that-pass!

Yes, that was awful, and I'm proud of it.

SHUT IT!

I love you all... Even you, Wil Wheaton...

Well Then...

Since TWO reader comments clamoring for a new post qualifies as public outcry in the NTG world, here you go... A new post...

It has obviously been awhile since I got something of note up on the ol' blog. I miss my blog. The biggest stonewall to me posting, lately, has been the death of my home computer. Hal 9000. I didn't name him, Drew did. Yell at Drew. There is still hope for resurrecting Hal, but that would only be for the purpose of retrieving the data on the hard drive. The rest of him is old, beaten, and beyond the autumn of its years. So 2006 will see a new home compy, and with that will come a resurgence of NTG goodness!

With Hal temporarily dead, I have had to rely on work time to post, and work has been busy. We're doing office renovations, and I mean that lit'rally. We painted all day Wednesday and yesterday, and hopefully by this afternoon everything will be done and I can get back to using my work time for productive posting. That is, considering I can still get to and from work with all this MTA transit strike nonsense. I made it into work an hour early today, tried to get a jump on any shutdown that might happen. Gotta finish painting. But shit, if I had my way I'd have stayed home, drank tea and watched "Lord Of The Rings" all day. That was my backup plan for if they decided on the strike last night at midnight like they were threatening. But here I am at work, early, posting for you fine readers. That's just how much I love all of you.

Sorry I have been a veritable ghost lately, I will strive to do better in the future.

And if I don't, and any of you has a problem with that, we shall battle to the death on a suspension bridge over a volcano.

Bring it.

Love ya!

At The VERY Least...

...I had to post something about that travesty of a game last night.

I'm not going to get into specifics about the game, but this week's pic is in the interest of finding the positive within the negative (trying to keep a sunny outlook, see?). Before the game, the Eagles, and really the whole city of Philadelphia AND the whole NFL, paid tribute to one of the fallen greats, Reggie White. His daughter, Jecolia, sang the national anthem before the game, and his famed number 92 was officially retired. It was a fitting tribute to one of Philadelphia's most loved athletes.

What would have been even more of a fitting tribute... Fuck it I'm not even going to get into it. Rather, I'll leave you with an anecdote.

Zack and I went to Town Tavern for the game. As much as I enjoy going there, there always has to be a small contingent (sometimes a contingent of 1) of Eagles detractors. Well, last night was no different, as there was a loud, jackass Seattle fan being a loud, jackass Seattle fan. I have learned to not let these people get to me, but as I mentioned in my last post, I haven't exactly been doing great lately. Lot on my mind. So, after each Seattle touchdown, the guy's cheering got louder, more asshole-ish, and more annoying to my frazzled state of mind. After their third one, while giving him the patented Joe Death Stare, I reached back to the table, grabbed the ketchup bottle, and took one step toward him before Zack grabbed my arm. We left at halftime. I don't know if I would have actually hit the guy, but chances are good I would have gotten my ass beat, and would have been banned for life from Town Tavern. So, thanks to Zack for preventing all that.
